Icon of Sophia - Holy Wisdom / София - Премудрость Божия

В ветхозаветных книгах София - олицетворение высшей мудрости и творческой любви Бога, Его мироустрояющая воля, источник бытия и орудие творения. Христианская традиция, начиная с апостольских времен, отождествляет Софию с вторым лицом Св. Троицы, Сыном Божиим Иисусом Христом (Кор I, 24). В византийском и древнерусском искусстве известны изображения Софии в виде аллегорической фигуры - как самостоятельные, так и в составесложных символических композиций. Позднесредневековая традиция (начиная с XVII в.) нередко сближает Софию с Богоматерью. Отождествление Софии с Сыном-Логосом близко иконографии Иисуса Христа - Ангела Великого Совета. На рассматриваемой иконе София персонифицируется антропоморфной фигурой - огнеликой крылатой девой-ангелом. София восседает на троне в царских одеждах, на голове у Нее корона. Над Ней огрудное изображение Иисуса Христа. Еще выше - Этимасия с ангелами. Премудрости предстоят, образуя деисусную композицию, Богородица и Иоанн Предтеча.
