Four sets of mirrors were commissioned by NASA to Smithsonian to be built. Smithsonian subcontracted Tinsley in California, and Sagem in France to build each two aspheric primary and two aspheric secondary mirrors. The Mirrors have super polish surface of less than 3 Angstrom in roughness and the mirrors figure error is less than 0.005 waves. The state of the art mirrors took over 6 months to fabricate with the latest polishing techniques available.
