Opportunity rover on smooth sheet soil on the Meridiani Planum approaching the lander's heat shield

Summary[edit]

Description
English: View from Opportunity rover's Pancam across a wide expanse of the Meridiani Planum covered in smooth sheet type soil bedforms. In the middle distance is the shiny backside of the discarded heat shield used to land the rover. Also, barely visible to the left of the heat shield, is a basketball-sized meteorite now officially called heat shield rock.
