Field of plains ripples on the Meridiani Planum
Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: This is a wide-view of a large field of plains ripples soil bedforms. The individual soil ripples are usually 10-40cm tall and 1.5m to 4m wide. In the foreground, center of this picture a small (light) patch of the top of the underlying sediment (outcrop) is seen. In fields of plains ripples the fraction of sediment outcrop varies from almost nothing to majority sediment outcrop. These fields of plains ripples are large (from a few Km2 to more than 1000 Km2). The individual plains ripples are smaller than dunes and move slowly (or not at all) relative to dune movements. |
