Summary[edit]

Description
English: Snailography? The receding waters of the tide have exposed the chalk outcrops, characteristic for this section of coastline. Marine creatures are temporarily trapped in the shallow pools of sea water until the tide comes in once again. Meantime a snail appears to be making the most of its short confinement by exploring its surroundings, and in doing so it is leaving a clear trail in the sand, marking the route taken on its wanderings - see bottom/foreground.

The chalk layer is only visible at low water. It is composed of calcium carbonate from the remains of microscopic marine organisms that once lived in a warm shallow sea which covered this area between 62 and 132 million years ago. http://www.chesterfieldlodge.fsnet.co.uk/Geology/west%20runton-east%20runton.htm
