Summary[edit]

Description
English: Example of the "S-motif", a local 3-D structural motif occurring within A-form double helices of RNA, especially in ribosomes; this classic example is from the "sarcin-ricin loop", an important site for binding elongation factors, which is targeted by the ricin family of toxins. The front strand (blue bases) forms an S shape, while the back strand has only one unusual conformation (pink) that switches base-stacks at the base-triple layer. The 2-character labels describe the 7-dihedral-angle backbone conformations between each successive pair of bases along a strand, as defined by the RNA Ontology Consortium. Coordinates from PDB file 1Q9A; displayed in KiNG.
