Summary[edit]

Description
English: Overview

The Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine is a medical clinic located in Huntsville, Ala., that specializes in diagnosing rare undiagnosed and misdiagnosed diseases through the use of genomics. The clinic is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a nonprofit genomics and genetics research institute founded in 2004.

The Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine is not affiliated with hospital systems or universities; however, the clinic has agreements with UAB-Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Alabama to share best practices in genomic medicine and clinic administration.

Mission and Vision By using the power of genomics, the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine seeks to solve cases of undiagnosed disease and provide answers to families and physicians. Its vision for genomic medicine is for whole genome sequencing to become an increasingly valuable tool not only for diagnosis but also for prediction and prevention of disease.

History The Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine was established in November 2015 on the HudsonAlpha campus, with the intent of bringing the use of the whole genome sequence into the clinical space and seeing both pediatric and adult patients. Previously, the vast majority of genomics existed in the clinical research arena. In 2016, the clinic began offering a whole genome sequencing package for individuals who were interested in learning more about their genome for personal and family current and future health management. That offering was called Insight Genome.

Education
