Description
English: Gold is the main economic activity in Geita region, Tanzania . Apart from the big players like Geita Gold Mining company there is a lot of small scale mining activities. I stumbled upon these three ferrying their gold bearings rocks on the motorbike. In Geita these gold bearing rocks containing gold are called magwangala. They will later pound the rocks and use mercury to extract the gold.
Kiswahili: Dhahabu ni shughuli kuu ya uchumi katika mkoa wa Geita, Tanzania. Kando na wachimbaji wakubwa kama kampuni ya Madini ya Geita Gold kuna shughuli nyingi za uchimbaji mdogo. Nilikutana na watatu hawa wakiwa wamebeba mawe ya dhahabu kwenye pikipiki. Huku Geita mawe haya ya dhahabu inaitwa magwangala. Baadaye watagonga mawe hayo na kutumia zebaki kutoa dhahabu.
