Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Slapestone Wath. 'Wath' is a northern term for a ford, and this is a relatively shallow point on the Ure. An ancient lane crossed the river at this point, linking the now disappeared village of Thoresby on the north bank with Bishopdale. The stepping stones were replaced a few years ago and were set low enough to deter people from crossing when the river is high. Note that several of the stones were covered on this July afternoon. |
