English: Site of the Ty Canol manganese mine This mine was intensively worked during WWII when Britain sought as much home sourced raw materials as possible. In 1945, with the threat of enemy action to shipping eliminated, the Rhiw mines were abandoned in favour of overseas mines producing richer ores. The mine workings were accessed by means of a shaft. |
