Description
English: Islamic glassware in the Louvre
Français : Louvre - Bouteille de Tuguz Timur - 1345 - 1346 - Syrie (?) - Verre soufflé, décor émaillé et doré - Ancienne Collection F. Spitzer ; achat, 1893 - Département des Arts de l'Islam - Invenataire : OA 3365 - Salle B, vitrine 61A Information du cartel : C’est la plus belle et la plus grande des bouteilles à long col, parmi la quinzaine de ces luxueuses pièces conservées. Le blason (un aigle surmontant une coupe) semble désigner l’émir Tuguz Timur bien que son nom ne soit pas inscrit sur l’objet. Il mena une carrière militaire ; il fut vice-roi d’Égypte puis de Syrie. La base du col est ornée de phénix en vol, « chinoiseries » en vogue à partir du deuxième quart du 14e siècle. Une bouteille de même forme apparaît sur le « baptistère de Saint Louis »
