| Description |
The rail connection of Longbridge car factory was on the former loop between Northfield , Halesowen and Blackheath. Halesowen must be one of the larger towns in the UK which doesn't have a railway connection, indeed passenger services beyond Longbridge ceased just after world war I and goods ceased in 1964. After that, the tracks were taken up beyond Longbridge. This photo shows the Longbridge East Box, and more photos of this and the once extensive sidings serving the former Austin car factory here may be seen on this page Now, there is a call to name streets recalling the motor era in this wasteland and former industrial site. |
