English: On 18 October 1967 the RAN guided missile destroyer HMAS Perth (II) D38, and USS Newport News were fired on by North Vietnamese shore batteries, and HMAS Perth was hit by one round. The shell glanced off Mount 52 (aft 5 inch gun turret), penetrated the upper deck and exploded in the confidential book vault, causing a fire and injuring 7 sailors, two seriously.
