Summary[edit]

Description
English: The photo above shows a questioned shoeprint impression left at a crime scene and the outsole of a known shoe recovered from a suspect. Forensic investigators can examine a shoeprint and determine if it was created by a specific shoe. A comparison of the above shoe and shoeprint may show that:

The questioned shoeprint is similar in size, shape, design and layout to the known shoe. Numerous class characteristics are shown:

  • Both the shoeprint and shoe is split into 9 lateral sections.
  • The shoeprint is divided longitudinally into 2 by a curved gap that runs from toe to heel. The location and shape of the gap corresponds to a deep flex groove that is present on the shoe.
  • 4 circular patterns on the medial side of the heel section of the shoeprint and shoe.
  • brs1000 marking present in heel section on lateral side on the heel section of the shoeprint and shoe.

The class characteristics of the questioned shoeprint impression on the left is consistent with the make and model of the know shoe shoe. (Manufacturer: Nike Model: Nike Free Everyday)

Wear characteristics: The questioned shoeprint shows wears characteristics that is similar to that of the known shoe.

  • Very little wear on lateral edge in the fore foot section of the shoeprint and shoe.
  • Numerous similarities in wear in the ball section of the shoeprint and shoe.
Further detailed comparison of the shoeprint and shoe for individual or unique wear characteristics could allow a forensic investigator to conclude that the question shoeprint on the left was created by the known shoe on the right.
