Description
English: This animation shows a ship transit through a rectangular ice filled channel. The dynamics were calculated using a three-dimensional discrete element ice model based on flat, disk-shaped ice floes. The forces between the ice floes in the direction normal to the floe surfaces are viscous-elastic, while the tangential, frictional force are Coulombic. Water drag and buoyancy on the floes are also modeled. The ship dynamics, while not modeled in this simulation, would add little to the complexity of the simulation.
