Description
English: NASA astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. is hoisted up in a body harness by a U.S. Marine Sikorsky UH-34D helicopter recovery team of Marine squadron HMM-262 following the first Project Mercury suborbital space flight, 5 May 1961. The command pilot was Wayne Koons and the co-pilot was George Cox. Astronaut Shepard, along with his spacecraft, was then taken to the U.S. Navy carrier Lake Champlain (location: 27.23° N 75.88° W).
