Summary[edit]

Description
English: Shallow Pit. This area has been mined for coal for a long time. Initially the pits were simple, shallow workings - the first coal seam was around 60 feet from the average surface, with small outcrops to the surface. Recent open cast mining in the area has removed most traces of these old workings.
