Description
English: Breccia from the Tertiary of California, USA.

Breccia is a poorly sorted siliciclastic sedimentary rock with angular clasts. This sample has multicolored, heterolithic clasts (click on the photo to zoom in and look around). The sediments were deposited in an ancient fluvial (river) setting.

Stratigraphy: Amargosa Valley Formation, Upper Oligocene to Lower Miocene, ~20-25 Ma

Locality: clast in modern fanglomerate, proximal part of an alluvial fan due south of Bat Mountain, southern Funeral Mountains, southeastern Inyo County, southeastern California, USA
