Description |
English: When Broadway High School (originally Seattle High School) was built in 1902, Seattle some residents complained that it was too large and a waste of public money. By 1904 the school had 1,700 students, and the building was already crowded. The school closed in June 1946 and re-opened in September 1946 as Edison Technical College. Today the building's auditorium is a part of Seattle Central Community College, and the site is once again used by some district students. This photo shows the Broadway High School Glee Club, an extracurricular group for boys until 1906 when it became the co-ed High School Chorus. A June 1903 Glee Club concert was called the "Event of the Season," by Kent newspapers, and the boys were a "decided hit" in their suits of dark coats and white trousers, white shirt waists, and jaunty red and white hats.
