English: In 1890, Seattle's City Hall moved into King County's old courthouse at Third Avenue and Jefferson Street. Seattle's population grew very fast during the next eighteen years. As the city boomed, the city government kept adding on to the old building. The building looked so strange that people nicknamed it the "Katzenjammer Castle" after a popular comic strip of the time.
This photo shows Seattle's old city hall building in about 1911. The original courthouse building is to the left in the photograph.
MOHAI dates this photograph as "circa 1911" but that may be a bit late. The article Courthouse History on the official site of King County says the building was demolished in 1909. |

Looks like this is the building now known as the Old Public Safety Building, so this is probably 1909, when that was completed.
