Summary[edit]

Description
English:
1356 seal of Eleanor Gorges, widow of Theobald Russell, as survives in British Library, used as a model to reconstruct the appearance of the seal of her mother, Eleanor Ferre

Re-imagined seal of Eleanor Ferre, widow of Ralph de Gorges (d.1324). Reconstructed and drawn by Lobsterthermidor (talk) 20:06, 5 September 2020 (UTC) (using Inkscape) from description in Collins Baronage (sic) (and in John Hutchin's History and Antiquities of the County of Dorset, Vol.1, 1774, p.279, note B, re manor of Bradpole[1]), quoted in:

Raymond Gorges (Gorges, Raymond & Brown, Frederick, Rev., FSA. [2], Boston, USA, (Merrymount Press privately published), 1944, p.33): Eleanor (Ferre) widow of Ralph de Gorges sealed with arms lozengy, with lozengy and a cross moline placed alternately and circularly around the shield ... Gorges, p.33 continues: This seal is on the same lines as that of Eleanor's daughter Eleanor (Gorges), widow of Theobald Russell, who sealed her deed of 1356 with Russell and Gorges impaled surrounded by smaller shields of Russell and Gorges alternately ... This goes far to show that the paternal arms of Eleanor (Ferre), widow of Ralph de Gorges, were the cross moline or fer de moline. The 1356 seal of Eleanor Gorges survives in the British Library, traced and regularised by Lobsterthermidor (talk) 20:06, 5 September 2020 (UTC) as File:Seal 1356 EleanorGorges WifeOf TheobaldRussell.svg (see image above), thus the shields have been re-substituted as appropriate, and the legend amended.
