here preferred andindicated represent,op the whole the consensus of the best recent authorities. Themaps are beautiful specixuens of the engravers art — a pleasure to the eye, andadmirably clear. Great attention has evidently been given to correctness oftypography, but we notice one or two errors that seem strangely to have escapeddetection, and must prove rather vexatious to the authors. In map 2, Regio iv.is by mistake given when it should be Regio vi., and Statium is a mistake forStadium. Accompanying the maps is a list, filling 102 pages, of all places, build-ings, monuments, etc., of any note which are incidentally mentioned by ancientauthors or in inscriptions, with indication of their position on the maps (if shownthere), and with a reference to the document where they are mentioned, and to theworks of recent commentators who have discussed their site. The preparation ofthis list must have cost the compiler much labour, and it cannot fail to prove ofgreat service to scholars.
