Deutsch: Aufgesägte und polierte Achat-„Steinkerne“ (genauer: Pseudomorphosen) von Schnecken aus den sedimentären Zwischenlagen des Dekkan-Trapp, Oberkreide, Indien. Man beachte, dass die Mündungsbereiche der Gehäuse mit Sediment verfüllt waren (immernoch zu erkennen), während der Rest hohl blieb, sodass sich dort der Quarz ungestört abscheiden konnte.
English: Polished sections of internal molds (or more precisely: pseudomorphs) of agate of gastropods from the sedimentary interbeds of the Deccan Trap volcanics, Late Cretaceous, India. Note that the apertural areas of the shells were filled with sediment (still visible) whereas the rest of the shells remained hollow so that the quartz could precipitate undisturbedly. |
