Summary[edit]

Description
The seven tones of any scale in a circle
(compare solfège signs)

This table shows seven columns of File:Scales on keyboard.svg, but arranged in a rather subjective way.

The semitone pairs ti-do and mi-fa are grouped together, and so is the pair so-la. The remaining re is shown alone.
The resulting pattern can help to learn the positions of the tones in each scale.

An easily seen regularity is that the semitone pair is usually black-white for ♯ scales and white-black for ♭ scales.

An intuitive way to play this is as a downward minor scale (with a la to be added at the end):
la-so ... fa-mi ... re ... do-ti ... (la)

The dozenal numbers denote the keys.
