Title
English: Saxon Coins
Description
English: A penny of Harthacnut, one of the Saxon coins decorating the margin of Moll's map of Suffolk, sold separately and as Map 21 in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales..., copied from Figure 13 of Tabula III Nummi Saxonici on Page 146 of Obadiah Walker's "Notes on the Saxon Coins" appended to the English translation of William Camden's Britannica. The coin is the Jewel Cross type issued during Harthacnut's "joint rule" with Harold I Harefoot.

Notes:
Legend: CNVT REX HARÐA [King Knut the Hard or King Harthacnut]
Walker's note states "13. The thirteenth is of Harthacnut. He reigned about two years, and died suddenly at a great feast in Lambeth. Little of note mentioned of him, besides that he was very affectionate to his mother's children; and that he loved good eating, making four meals a day. The reverse is Elnwine on Wice.—perhaps Worcester." For the use of Wice. for Winchester and Winchcombe rather than Worcester, see Parsons (1915). Parsons places the left-facing jewel cross pennies during Harthacnut's joint rule with Harold and the right-facing pennies after his return to England.

London: Sold by H. Moll over-against Devereux-Court in the Strand; Tho. Bowles, Print and Map-Seller near the Chapter-House in St. Paul's Church-Yard, and J. Bowles Print and Map-Seller over-against Stocks-Market. 1724.
