English: Soldiers with Glennville's Alpha Company 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) are running exercises during the eXportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) Sept. 9, 2013, at Fort Stewart. First Sgt. Glenn Gartley, an engineer of 22 years, operates a front-end loader in preparation for upcoming training events. Gartley, who recently returned to the unit in June 2013, is a native of Savannah. “I’m looking forward to the demolition part of our training and helping to support the infantry battalion with our unique engineering assets.” said Gartley. Soldiers with the 48th BSTB are hard at work at XCTC, having already built a bunker for the demolition range, performed land navigation courses and hosted the Engineer Sapper States competition amongst their ranks. The Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team hosts the XCTC program to provide soldiers with an experience similar to combat missions overseas. XCTC is a battalion field-training instrument designed to certify company proficiency in coordination with First Army. More than 2,000 Georgia Guardsmen have converged on the regional training center at Fort Stewart, minimizing cost and time otherwise spent traveling to one of the Army’s Combat Training Centers in Fort Irwin, Calif., or Fort Polk, La. |
