Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sandstone outcrop. An outcrop of sandstones belonging to the Cwm Eigiau Formation, of Ordovician age (around 450 million years). Much of the Conwy Mountain or Mynydd y Dref comprises a series of rhyolitic tuffs intruded by a thick sill of flow-banded rhyolite which belong to the first eruptive cycle in Snowdonia. Quiescence and prolonged erosion of the volcanic edifices resulted in thick sandstones being deposited, as shown here. These sandstones reach their best development in Cwm Eigiau 657875, which is the type locality and gives its name to the Formation.
