| Description |
English: Sandon Village Sign This sign was erected 1987 to commemorate the centenary of the 'Sandon Oak' which was planted to celebrate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee 1887.
Unfortunately in the latter part of the 20th century the Sandon Oak became diseased and had to be felled. Infected soil made it was impossible to plant a new tree in the exact site of the original (ie in the middle of the green). So three sapling trees were planted around the green. This was completed in 2002, the jubilee year of Queen Elizabeth. The Sandon sign still shows the original tree. |
