The trackball and forcestick are position entry devices(PEDs). A PED provides position input data to the terminal controllerand controls the position of a cursor on the screen of a displaymonitor. The model 5786 trackball and the model 5787 forcestick areshown in figure 1-10. Each PED is self contained in a black plastic case designed fordesk top or similar use. Except for the means by which they arecontrolled, the two units are physically identical. The trackball is controlled by means of a phenolic compositionball that can be rotated continuously in any direction.
