English: A letter by Samuel Pepys, engraved for the first edition of the Rev. John Smith's 1825 edition of the diary. (Image is found at volume 1, page 1) Letter is dated: Clapham, 1 July 1700.

Text reads:

I am (I bless God) restor'd to a perfect degree of Health, at least as perfect as at this Time of Day, I can ever expect to bee, & (I bless God) it is a good One Thy whole family allsoe, with ye whole Numbr of yor friends falling in my Way, are well, & on all Opportunitys are yor Kinde Rememberers. So God keepe you. Adieu. Your truly affectte uncle
