Summary[edit]

Description

This saltmarsh sparrow nest is flooded by the tide. The three eggs are floating, and if they manage to stay in the nest cup while the tide goes out, the female can return and warm them back up. With higher water levels, the eggs move away from the nest cup and the female has no way to return them. Sea level rise and increased storms are contributing to nest flooding and reproductive failure for this species. Nest monitoring should always be conducted by trained researchers with proper permitting.
