Description
English: Antony the Great, also known as Antony of Egypt, Antony the Hermit, or Antony of the Desert, is the founder of Christian monasticism. He lived for 105 years between 251 and January 17, 356, including approximately 80 years as a solitary alternating work and prayer.

The wandering of a pig evokes a privilege granted to the Hospitaller Order of Saint-Antoine. He had to fight against temptations represented by demons. The engraving is by François Adolphe Bruneau Audibran who worked with etching, burin and French dotted lines; Paris 1810 -1883.

The engraving illustrates a book by Abbé Godescard, canon of Saint-Honoré of Paris and prolific author-translator.
Français : Antoine le Grand, également connu comme Antoine d'Égypte, Antoine l'Ermite, ou encore Antoine du désert est le fondateur du monachisme chrétien. Il a vécu pendant 105 ans entre 251 et le 17 janvier 356 dont environ 80 ans comme solitaire alternant travail et prières.

La divagation d'un porc évoque un privilège accordé à l'Ordre hospitalier de Saint-Antoine. Il eu à lutter contre des tentations représentées par des démons. La gravure est de François Adolphe Bruneau Audibran qui travaillait à l'eau-forte, au burin et au pointillé français ; Paris 1810 -1883.

La gravure illustre un livre de l'Abbé Godescard chanoine de Saint-Honoré de Paris et auteur-traducteur prolifique.
