Summary[edit]
DescriptionSacaton red on buff pot, ca. 950-1150, Pueblo Grande museum.JPG |
A classic "Gila shoulder" pot, a favorite of these folks, and of collectors ever since. This one seems to have been recovered intact from the PG ruins. Pueblo Grande museum was established in 1929, with the hiring of Odd Halseth as Americas' first City Archaeologist. Per the volunteer on duty, Mr. Halseth built the first adobe museum buildings for a cash outlay of around $20.00 (for nails & hardware), as the city had no extra cash for such things in the Great Depression. In this 70th anniversary year, park staff have some of their favorite art and artifacts on display. The repeated "W" motif is simply coincidence (see date), but intriguing.... |
