Summary[edit]

Description
English: Special Badges of Units of Non-German Nationality in the Waffen-SS (collar tabs); German: Sonderabzeichen der Verbände nichtdeutscher Nationalität in der Waffen-SS (Kragenspiegel)
  • A selection of collar tabs (gorget patches) with "political emblems" (German: Kragenspiegel/Kragenpatten mit den politischen Sinnbildern [Verbandabzeichen am Kragen]) for foreign and non-German units of the Waffen-SS (aussen- und nichtdeutschen Eiheiten der Waffen-SS) during World War II; Silvery/grey/white insignia embroided on black cloth patches worn on the right lapel of the tunic. Foreign SS volunteers were issued with distinctive collar tabs that were unique to their division instead of the SS runes. The divisional collar tab was worn on the right side and a rank collar tab was worn on the left side.
Note! It is somewhat uncertain to what extent some of these late war emblems were in use or just intended to be (never issued).

Germanic-SS uniforms were modified versions of the original black Allgemeine-SS uniforms and were used strictly by the Germanic-SS in occupied countries. These units were provided with surplus black uniforms upon which were displayed country specific insignia. This led to a wide variety of insignia and rank titles depending on the country of origin, although standardized throughout the entire Germanic-SS were the rank insignia pips and oak leaves used by the SS proper. The Germanic-SS effectively ceased to exist in late 1944, after which time most of its members were folded into the foreign legions of the Waffen-SS.
SS collar tabs can be found in an extraordinary variety of numbers, designs, and pipings depending on unit and rank, from hand-embroidered tabs worn by officers to mass produced embroidered and machine woven types that were used on combat uniforms.
  • Chart (illustration, book plate) in SS-KALENDER 1945 for danske SS-frivillige, a Danish-language version of the German military annual agenda (pocket yearbook, handbook or booklet with calendar) Soldatenfreund Taschenjahrbuch which was intended for Danish volunteers in the Waffen-SS of Nazi Germany during World War II. Issued by the Germanske SS-Sturmbanne (Germanic Waffen-SS) in November 1944. This Danish booklet, similar in form and style to the German SS Soldatenfreund booklets, were only produced for the year 1945.
