Description

Just a couple of hours ago the new active region coming over the limb produced an X1-class solar flare. Here is a look at this event in various forms/wavelengths. The many different views of SDO:

  1. the HMI instrument shows us the large sunspot
  2. AIA 304 Angstroms shows the ~50,000 degrees C. Chromosphere
  3. AIA 171 Angstroms shows the 1 million degrees C. transition region between Chromosphere and Corona
  4. AIA 335 Angstroms shows ~2.5 million degrees C. Corona
  5. AIA 94 Angstroms shows ~6 million degrees C. Corona
  6. AIA 131 Angstroms shows ~10 million degrees C. upper Corona
