DescriptionRussiaB 2802 - Armoury (4156735106).jpg |
You are not allowed a lens over 70mm in the Kremlin, I had to borrow a point and shoot, I was upset. Also to many surveillance cameras to sneak pictures inside the armoury. Set between the Grand Kremlin Palace and the Borovitsky Gate, the Armoury houses a staggering number of treasures that include the tsar's coronation robes, carriages, jewellery and armour. The Armoury goes back to the fifteenth century, when it was a repository for the treasures and jewels of the grand princes of Moscow. It contained richly decorated arms, ceremonial robes, icons, gold and silver plate and ambassadorial gifts. The items were not only stored there, but also removed for use by the grand princes and tsars for official Russian ceremonies. It became a museum in the nineteenth century, following the Napoleonic invasion. |
