Summary[edit]
DescriptionRuined fishery, Lamberton Skerrs - geograph.org.uk - 355481.jpg |
English: Ruined fishery, Lamberton Skerrs This ruin is in a fantastic location overlooking the rocks at Lamberton Skerrs. On old maps there is a fishery located at this site. Whether this building was a fishery I am not sure, it appeared to contain evidence of both modern and older building. Nearby on the rocks is a rusty winch and a stone building, built into the cliff face, possibly a store?
Alan Spence contacted me and provided addition, interesting information. "This house, 'Lumburn' to locals I believe but the St Abbs men knew it as 'The White Hoose' when using it as a shore mark. It was a bothy or shiel for a salmon fishery and the winch suggests some sort of sweep or drag net was used. It demise within living memory was I believe a deliberate fire caused by vandals." |
