Archives Reference: ABIN W3337 box 136 The visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh to New Zealand from 23 December 1953 to 30 January 1954. The menu is from the Royal Train dated Monday, 18 January 1954. The Royal couple were travelling from Greymouth to Darfield where they had a short stop at the Railway Station and then went onto Christchurch. The schedule for the day of Monday, 18 January 1954 went as follows: 10.05 a.m. - Leave Revingtons Hotel, Greymouth by car for Council Chambers via Tainui Street, Chapel Street, Alexander Street, and Puketahi Street to corner of Tainui Street. 10.15 a.m. - Arrive Council Chambers. (Civic Reception. Mayor Mr F.W. Baillie). 10.35 a.m. - Morning tea in Council Chambers. 11.10 a.m. - Leave by car for Railway Station via Tainui Street and Mackay Street. 11.25 a.m. - Arrive Railway Station. 11.30 a.m. - Leave for Darfield by Royal Train. LUNCH ON ROYAL TRAIN. 4.55 p.m. - Arrive Darfield. Brief stop at Railway Station (Chairman or Malvern County Council - Mr J. Deans). 5.00 p.m. - Leave for Christchurch. |
