| Description |
This aircraft features a genuine unflown fuselage nacelle, fitted with an original engine. All other components are new-build. The nacelle was presented to the RAF Museum by it’s original manufacturer, Richard Garrett Engineering Ltd, in 1976. The engine, a 160hp Beardmore, was recovered from New Zealand in 1992. Most of the new construction was carried out by John McKenzie in Southampton, who had previously constructed the airframe for the museum’s replica B.E.2. The project was completed by Hastings based Retrotec Ltd, and went on display at Hendon in 2009. The nacelle has no genuine identity, so the airframe was painted to represent ‘A6526’, an FE2b which flew in 1918 with 148sqn, 58sqn and finally 102sqn, before being written off in October of that year. Having previously been on display in the Bomber Command hall, it is now on display as part of the WW1 exhibition in the Grahame-White Hangar. RAF Museum, Hendon, London, UK. 22-3-2015 |
