Description
Deutsch: Blick von der Franz-Josefs-Kaserne auf das Rotenturmtor. Beginn der Abbrucharbeiten an der Wiener Stadtmauer.

Die Franz-Josefs-Kaserne stand etwa dort, wo heute der Häuserblock zwischen Biberstraße und Stubenring ist. Unter dem vordersten Mauerstück befand sich das Laurenzertor. Die zweibogige Durchfahrt ist das (neue) Rotenturmtor. Der schon geschliffene Teil hat keinen festen Namen und wird Rotenturmbastei oder auch Gonzagabastei genannt. Der dreieckige Mauerspitz im Hintergrund ist die echte Gonzagabastei. Links davon sieht man ein Stück des Fischertors. Der Kirchturm links hinten ist Maria am Gestade. Gleich rechts neben dem höchsten Dach in der Stadt sieht man in der Bildmitte die markante Fassade der ehemaligen Schwarzspanierkirche. Die Häuserzeile, die rechts hinten beginnt, istder heutige Schottenring, direkt vor der Rossauerkaserne.
