Roseburia intestinalis an anaerobic Gram positive, belonging to Roseburia genera is reported as a distinctive human gut beneficial bacterial group. It has been reported to produce relatively high amounts of butyrate from prebiotic fermentation, which plays different roles in important processes linked to colonic health, including protection against inflammation and colorectal cancer. This specie metabolizes dietary components that stimulate their proliferation and metabolic activities. It was reported to be difficult to culture in-vitro. Roseburia spp.: a marker of health?
