Title
Roman bell
Description
English: A copper alloy Roman bell dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The bell is conical in shape with a lozengiform suspension loop projecting from the top. The interior of the bell features traces of iron staining indicating the missing clapper. Crummy (1983, p. 127) states that bells were probably attached to the collars of livestock or domestic pets, although some may have been used as personal ornaments.

The bell measures 27.16mm in height, has a maximum width of 23.93mm, a minimum width of 2.26mm and is 1.25mm thick. It weighs 9.91g.

Cf. Crummy, N, 1983, p. 127, fig. 143, no. 4168.
