Description |
English: A silver miliarense of Gratian (RIC IX Treveri 41B), from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of Rutlandshire (now Rutland), sold separately and as Map 25 in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales... The illustration is a reengraving of Figure 23 in Tabula II Nummi Romani from William Camden's Britannia, Vol. I, page 98.
Obverse: D N GRATIANVS P·F· AVG [Dominus Noster Gratianus Pius Felix Augustus, Our Lord the Devout and Fortunate Emperor Gratian] Reverse: VOTIS X MVLTIS XX [Votis X Multis XX, With the Vows for Ten Years' Prosperity Completed, Vows for Twenty Have Been Made] and TRPS [Augustae Treverorum Pustulatum, Pure Silver Minted at Trier] Camden's note states "23.
