y well in-deed for th a tseason we hadone of the bestcooks I ha V eever met in myhunting expedi-tions. Thiscook was n otonly a first classcook but also agentleman auda very jollygood temperedfellow—in factjust the sort ofman sportsmenlike in a hunt-ing party.Everything hedid was neatly,q u i c kly andquietly doneand we couldget a meal atall hours. Inthese days menof that stampare not metwith so often, and the factthat we hadsuch a cook inthat year isalone remark-able. Stillmore vivid inmy recoil e c-tions is theplentiful y e tdainty meal heserved, whichafter my exer-tions on the double journey was mostwelcome. The supper included sea pie, fried fish, rabbit and partridge stew, hot cakes, apple pie and maple syrup with sweetcream, tea and coffee. The mail carrierhad come in that day and brought withhim a supply of cream and fresh eggs. Again there was a good deal of beartalk in Camp that night and the mem-bers became highly excited in discussingjust what was going to happen to the bear.

THE HUNTING FARTV IN FRONT OF THEIR CAMP. Front row reading- from left to right: Dr. E. Huot, J. Fournier, the Cook, Dr. A. Pinard, E. R. La Fleche, Dr. L. B. Hawley.Second row: Dr. G. W. Brown, R. J. Shoemaker, F. C. Cutting-, T. F. Adkin, C. S. Clark, Lt. A. A. Pinard, of the 4.5rd Battalion photographer of the party. Next day the preparations were madefor the usual morning chase. When Iam Captain of a hunting party the rule isfor the chase to be over before oneoclock. We get up early, have ourmorning hunt and leave the deer to restin the afternoon. I start the dogs my-self, and as all my hounds have beenschooled to return to me immediatelyafter each chase, I know what is goingon all the time. On any of these occa-sions when it was too late for anotherrun before lunch I gave the fall in calland we all returned to camp for thatmeal. 1 always have a few bugles withme and all the party soon learn my call.I find that these arrangements answerperfectly. My visitors are not exhaustedover
