Summary[edit]
DescriptionRiksbyritsning.jpg |
Riksbyristningen, Stockholm. Troligen sentida (1600-1800-tal). English: The so-called "Riksbyristningen" in Riksby (RAÄ 29), Bromma, Stockholm, which is located on the southwest side of the mountain on a vertical and smooth cliff/rock in the forest near the corner north of Kvarnbacksvägen's corner with Hemslöjdsvägen and also close to Riksby old burial ground. Riksbyristningen is a carving and it has become a model and logo for Bromma hembygdsförening. The carving is located in a niche in the rock and that makes it probable that there has been a place of worship here. The carving, which depicts two men, is probably the pagan gods Odin and Thor. Odin (on the left) has his two ravens Hugin and Munin on his left shoulder and Thor (on the right) is equipped with the hammer Mjölner and a sword. An image of Mjölner is called a torshammer and it can be carved on a rune stone or worn in the form of a piece of jewelery. In Old Norse mythology, Mjölner is the mighty hammer of the thunder god Thor. Hugin and Munin were Odin's ravens in Norse mythology. Thor was an Old Norse thunder god in Old Norse mythology is Mjölner the thunder god Thor's hammer.
