DescriptionRialto Theatre truck - Department of Treasury.jpg |
English: A truck belonging to the Rialto Theatre, one of several businesses owned by Moore's Theaters Corporation in Washington, D.C. The Rialto was located at 713 9th Street, NW (demolished; site now occupied by the 10-story Edison Place, headquarters of Pepco Holdings, Inc.). The 2,000-seat movie theatre was erected in 1917 and costs $250,000 to build.
The Rialto truck is parked in front of the statue of Alexander Hamilton and the Treasury Building's South Portico located near 15th & Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. The Greek Revival building was designed by several architects (Robert Mills, Ammi B. Young, Alexander H. Bowman, Isaiah Rogers, and Alfred B. Mullett) and constructed over a 33-year period (1836-1869). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971 and is a contributing property to the 15th Street Financial Historic District and Pennsylvania Avenue Historic Site. Identified as a Dodge truck by hubcaps showing "DB" logo (for Dodge Brothers). |
