Summary[edit]

Description
English: Anna Skoubourdis has also created the most unique and popular icon “Virgin Mary of Stillness” during isolation from the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. The Virgin Mary has her hand over her mouth instructing us to be quiet and the Baby Jesus has his hand in the Orthodox blessing position to imply that He will bless us in our silence. The idea is taken from the verse in Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. It is traditionally taught in Easter Orthodoxy that it is easier to pray and therefore come closer to God when a person spends more time in silence and as a result is able to focus more efficiently.
