Summary[edit]
DescriptionRespeggt eggs 1.jpg |
English: A sixpack of organic eggs with the Respeggt label, sold by Jumbo Supermarkten in the Netherlands, July 2021.
This product's tag has a Dutch text, stating: 'Voor RESPEGGT eieren worden alleen de leghennetjes geboren, waardoor het doden van haantjes verleden tijd is. Meer weten? Zie binnenkant van de verpakking. Zonder Kuikendoden respeggt.com'. Translation: "For RESPEGGT eggs only laying hens are born, making the killing of cockerels [male chicks] a thing of the past. Want to know more? Look at the tag's inside. Without Chick Killing respeggt.com". Background: In November 2018, Respeggt (from the Dutch–German company Seleggt) was the first label on the market for "no-kill eggs", that is, eggs for human consumption laid by hens whose "brothers" were not killed/culled – because of the male chicks' lack of economic value – shortly after the breeding eggs hatched. See en:chick culling and en:in-ovo sexing. |
