tripterus marmoratus Bean. Several small specimens were secured at stations 3224, 3257, 3258, and 3311, inBering Sea, north of Unalaska Island; depths, 70to 121 fathoms. They agree withthe types in having but 14 dorsal spines, the first four of which are not noticeably dif-ferentiated. The second dorsal contains 11 or 12 rays, and the anal fin 13. The lasttwo rays of the anal fin are approximated at base, but do not evidently constitutea divided ray. 48. Psychrolutes zebra Bean. Taken abundantly in shallow water south of the Alaskan Peninsula, thence westto and through Uuimak Pass, along the northern shore of Unalaska Island, and inBristol Bay. The depths range from 31 to 121 fathoms, at stations 3213, 3215, 3216,3217, 3219, 3222, 3223, 3224, 3225, 3257, 3258, 32.59, 3263, 3265, 3272, 3310, 3311, 3313,3322, and 3334. ICHTHYOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS OF THE ALBATROSS. 411 49. Malacocottus zonurus Bean. Several specimens taken at stations 3227, 3330, 3331, north of Unalaska Island, andat stations 3337 and 3339, soutli of Uuimak Island; depths, 138 to 351 fathoms. In addition to the characters given by Dr. Bean, we call attention to the following:Nasal spines obsolete. Supraorbital rim low, slightly elevated in front but notbehind; the interorbital space wide, shallowly concave. Occiput with two blunt,conical protiijerances in lieu of ridges, and without spines. A slight occipitaldepression. Preopercular angle with three radiating spines of nearly equal length,and a smaller spine directed outward in advance of the middle one of the three;below these a partially concealed spine directed downward and forward. Opercularrib very strong, sharp anteriorly, broadening behind, and provided with three lowridges, not ending in a definite spine. A spinous point on subopercle and one oninteropercle; none on shoulder.
