ticlinal roll mentioned in the railroad sections. This roll is distinctly seen on the other side of the river inthe cut of the Wilmington and Northern railroad, where,in spite of steeply dipping south-east cleavage planes, twowell established dips of N. 24° W. 60° and S. 24° E. 60° to80° were obtained. South of these last dips, on the W. & N. RR., there isan appearance of a shallow synclinal basin exhibited in itssouth limb by a dip of N. 40° W. 40°, followed by a gentleanticlinal roll, dipping on the south side of the arch S. 45°E. 40°, and holding that dip to the end of the railroad tan-gent. The rock is everywhere marked with cleavage planesdipping S. 15° E. 80°. Angelica creeTc, which divides this little patch of sand-stone in half, shows a sandstone dip below the Land Im-provement Companys dam of S. 35° E. 70, and further upcreek near the public road and junction of No. II limestonea dip of S. 30° E. 35°. 2^^ GEOL, SURVEY OF PA, 1882, REPORT 03, VOL, 2, PLATE 3,

POTSDAM SANDSTONE AREAS. D- 129 The small round hill to the west of the creek is also Pots-dam and shows a dip on its summit of S. 25° E. 42°. Returning to the east bank of the river, the Lovers Leapexposure on the railroad is duplicated on the rivers bankby a dip of S. 50° E. 60°, and about 300 yards further south, yet north of small ravine, the second anticlinal is markedby an overturned dip of S. 55° E. 65°, and a regular dip onthe south side close to the creek of S. 70° E. 60°. The ravine marks the divide between Nos. I and II, thelatter showing a dip of N. 70° E. 50°, though so greatlycontorted and twisted as to render its accuracy problem-atical. Limestone in turn is succeeded in about 800 feet byMesozoic conglomerate close to the crossing of the secondWilmington and Northern bridge. This, the most southern range of Potsdam SS. in theSouth Mountain district, extends east from the Schuylkillin a broad belt nearly a mile wide, completely covering theNeversink hills to the
